Powerhive, which is developing off-grid, renewable energy systems aimed at the emerging market, has raised $20M in a Series A funding, according to the company. The funding was led by Prelude Ventures, and also included Caterpillar Ventures, Total Energy Ventures, Tao Capital Partners, Pi Investments, plus angels. Powerhive develops cloud-based, microgrid technology used to generate electricity in emerging markets. The company is led by Christopher Hornor. The company said the funding will fund expansion in Africa and Asia-Pacific, plus for growth in Kenya.
