OCZ Technology Group Abandons Commodity DRAM
San Jose-based OCZ Technology Group, a developer of computer memory and solid state disk drives, said Tuesday that it has made a "strategic decision" to discontinue certain commodity level DRAM module products. The firm said it will instead focus on specialty and high-performance memory offerings, and particularly its solid state drive (SSD) segment. The firm said the business it is exiting--the commodity DRAM module products business--represented roughly 70% of its overall DRAM module revenue. No details on the move on employment was announced by the firm. The firm said the products will be taken out of production during the 2nd and 3rd fiscal quarters, ending in August and November.
