Linden Lab, IBM Demo Virtual Worlds Link
San Francisco-based Linden Lab, which operates the virtual world Second Life, and IBM said Tuesday that the firms have demonstrated linking different virtual worlds, by "teleporting" avatars. According to the two, the interoperability between Second Life Preview Grid and IBM's OpenSim virtual world server allows users of the virtual worlds to cross freely between the different virtual world systems. The companies said the developed a protocol which it will make available to the community, which will facilitate development of interoperability between virtual worlds. Both IBM and Linden labs said the enhacements they made to OpenSim and to Linden Labs Second Life viewer will be made available under open source.
