Four technology firms are reporting today that they have demonstrated a proof of concept WiFi network on Caltrain. Sensoria Corp, a provider of mobile mesh networking software and equipment, Nomad Digital, Intel, and Redline Communications said that the firms have successfully completed a "proof of concept" for providing WiFi to Caltrain commuter rail service. The firms have created a high-speed, Internet access network between Millbrae and Palo Alto stations. The firms said that the demonstration is the first of a rail service in the U.S. to provide broadband service. Caltrain will continue to work on engineering before offering the wireless access along the entire rail mainline.
