MIPS Buys Chipidea
Mountain View-based MIPS Technologies said today that it has acquired Chipidea Microelectronics S.A., a provider of analog and mixed-signal intellectual property. The deal is worth $147M in cash, along with up to 610,687 sharse of MIPS Technologies common stock in 2009. According to MIPs, Chipidea had revenues of $32.8M in the last quarter. MIPS, which develops processors and cores for the computing market, said that the acquisition will make it the second largest semiconductor design IP company and number one analog IP company worldwide. Chipidea develops RF, analog, and mixed-signal circuit designs used for wireless, digital media, power management, and other designs. The company's designs include A/D and D/A converter IP, wireless interfaces, USB circuitry, and other designs; the firm employs 310 employees and operates design centers in Portugal, France, Belgium, Poland, China, Norway, and Macau.
