Santa Clara-based Macrovision and private equity firm Thoma Cressey Bravo said this morning that an affiliate of TCB is in a definitive agreement to acquire Macrovision's Software Business Unit, in a deal worth $200M. According to the companies, Thoma Cressey Bravo will purchase the unit to create a new, stand-alone company. All of the products, support, and services within the unit will be transferred into the new company, which will be headed by EVP and General Manager of Macrovision's Software Business Unit, Mark Bishof. Macrovision's Software unit develops the Installshield software installation package as well as FLEXnet, which is used for monitoring software licenses.
