San Francisco-based Sprout said Tuesday that it has raised $5M in a Series B funding, for the firm's Web-based, widget authoring platform. The funding was led by Polaris Venture Partners, and also included Global Venture Capital and Lotus founder Mitch Kapor. Mike Hirschland of Polaris has joined the firm's board of directors as part of the funding. Sprout develops Web-based software for creating widgets, mashups, and other interactive Flash web content.
