San Francisco-based Sprout said today that it has rolled out a new widget buliding service it calls FanKits, focused on helping entertainment and media companies to promote their brands. Sprout said that its FanKits service allows companies to publish branded widgets, which can be created and shared within social media sites. According to Sprout, the new service is being used by Sony Pictures Entertainment to launch its upcoming comedy Nick & Norah's Infite Playlist. Financial impact of that deal were not disclosed. The FanKits service allows users to drag and drop elements to create widgets promote their favorite movies, music, games, and other brands, which can be added to their personal web sites; widgets include playlists, photo galleries, and movie clips.
