Palo Alto-based Austra, a developer of utility-scale solar thermal energy systems, said Wednesday afternoon that it has raised $60.6M in funding. The new round of funding was led by KERN Partners. Other investors in the funding included Generation Investment Management, Starfish Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Ausra said the funding will fund research and development, plus completion of a 5 megawatt solar thermal power plant near Bakersfield.
