Palo Alto-based Scalent Systems, which develops management and automation software for IT operations, said this morning that it has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to Scalent, the paent, No. 7,440,393, covers technology used to monitor servers and uptime in its software. The USPTO shows that the patent was actually received on October 21st. The patent names Chandrasekharan Nilakantan and Gary M. Jaszewski as inventors; Nilakantan is CTo of Scalent. Scalent is venture backed by Credit Suisse, FirstMark Capital, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, and JK&B Capital.
