San Francisco-based Mixamo, which is providing an online service for customizing and creating animated characters for the game industry, said Monday that it has raised $4M in funding from Granite Ventures and Keynote Ventures. The firm said that the company's technology is based on research from Stanford University's BioMotion Lab. The firm was co-founded by former Canesta CEO Nazim Kareemi, and Stefano Corazza, a researcher at Stanford. The firm claims its online service will provide custom character animation in a "fraction of the time" required by traditional methods.
