AMCC Renames Itself AppliedMicro
Sunnyvale-based Applied Micro Circuits Corporation, a developer of semiconductors, said this morning that it has renamed itself to AppliedMicro. The firm said the renaming reflects the company's drive into energy efficiency and "cost optimized" semiconductor devices. The firm said it is focusing on "radically lowering" energy consumption in the enterprise, datacenter, and small business sectors with its systems-on-a-chip. As a part of the renaming, the firm said it has opened up new design centers in India and Vietnam, although its engineering will remain in Sunnyvale.
