Skype Acquisition By Microsoft Closes
Voice over IP service Skype is finally becoming part of Microsoft, as Microsoft announced Thursday evening that it has finally cleared most of the regulatory hurdles involved and closed the $8.5 billion deal. Skype was most recently owned by an investment group that included been owned by an investment group led by Silver Lake, which also included eBay International AG, CPP Investment Board, Joltid Ltd. in partnership with Europlay Capital Advisors; and Andreessen Horowitz. That group had acquired Skype from eBay in November of 2009.
