VMware Buys Nicira
Palo Alto-based virtualization software developer VMware said today that it is buying a developer of network virtualization technology, Nicira, in a deal worth approximately $1.05 billion in cash plus approximately $210M in assumed, unvested equity. VMware said the buy would add to its portfolio of networking assets. Nicira was venture backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and New Enterprise Associates, and was also based in Palo Alto.
