Zipline Gets Funding For Drug Delivery Drones For The Third World
San Francisco-based Zipline, a developer of medical delivery drones aimed at delivering life saving medicines to the third world, has scored funding for its efforts, from Sequoia Capital, GV, SV Angel, Jerry Yang, Paul Allen, and Stanford University, the company disclosed this week. The company--which says it already has an agreement to delivery health products and medical products in Rwanda, in a deal with the Rwandan government--develops drone aircraft designed to easily deliver products into rural areas of the third world. The company says that, in the case of Rwanda, the flight range and low cost of its drones allows for support of the entire company through a single home base. Amount of funding for the company was not announced.
