Memphis Meats, a startup that is developing lab-grown meat, which replaces animals with synthetic lab processes using beef, chicken, and duck cells, has raised $17M in a Series A funding. The funding was led by DFJ, and also included Cargill, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, and Atomico, along with New Crop Capital, SOSV, Fifty Years, KBW Ventures, Inevitable Ventures, Suzy and Jack Welch, Kyle Vogt, and Kimbal Musk. Memphis Meats says it has now raised $22M in total. Memphis Meats is led by Uma Valeti. The company calls its meat protects "clean meat".
