San Francisco-based
Memphis Meats, which is developing lab-grown, meat products--meat produced directly from animal cells, rather than by raising animals--has scored an investment from
Tyson Foods, the food giant, via its venture capital arm,
Tyson Ventures. Size of the investment was not announced. Memphis Meats has previously raised funding from such investors as DFJ, Atomico, Cargill, Bill Gates and Richard Branson. Tyson
said it made the investment as it looks towards technology that will enable the feeding of a billion more people in the world by 2030, in a way that is sustainable.
