Bellwether Coffee Gets $10M
Berkeley-based Bellwether Coffee, which is applying hardware and software to coffee roasting, said on Monday that it has raised $10M in a Series A funding round. The funding was led by Congruent Ventures, and also included FusionX Ventures, Tandem Capital plus New Ground Ventures, Hardware Club, XN Ventures, and Peter and Lyndon Rive. Bellwether Coffee says its is creating a "state-of-the-art software platform", marketplace and "zero-emissions coffee" roasting device to help its partners source coffee from farms around the world, giving them access to information on responsible business practices and certifications. The company's roaster plugs into a retailer's location for on-demand roasting of beans.
