    MotionDSP Gets Investment From In-Q-Tel
    San Mateo-based MotionDSP, a company that develops digital video technology, said Tuesday that it has received a strategic investment from In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital arm. MotionDSP develops a video forensics tool that is used to improve the quality of video capture. The company's image enhancement software can create high-resolution images from low-resolution cameras and video. Amount of the investment was not disclosed.     Plato Networks Raises $20M
    Santa Clara-based Plato Networks, a company developing communications ICs, said Monday that it has raised $20M in a Series B funding. The round was led by Granite Ventures, and also included STIC International and Crosslink Capital. Plato Networks said the funding will go towards accelerating development of its ultra low power 10Gbps Ethernet products. Plato Networks was founded in 2004, and uses analog and digital signal processing (DSP) technology in its products.

    deCarta Locates $15M
    San Jose-based deCarta, which provides services for the location-based services industry, said this moring that it has raised $15M in a Series C-1 expansion round. Funding was led by Norwest Venture Partners, an existing investor in the firm. deCarta said that Mobius Venture Capital and Cardinal Venture Capital, also prior investors, also participated in the funding round. deCarta develops location based software used by Google, Ask.com, Verizon, Sprint, and others for providing mapping, routing (More info...)

    cFares Finds Funding
    cFares, an online travel web site focused on searching for airline tickets, said today that it has completed a Series A funding. The round was led by Claremont Creek Ventures, and also included Garage Technology Ventures. cFares said that the firm has now raised $4.5M in funding. Garage was a prior investor in the firm.     VaST Gets $12M
    Sunnyvale-based VaST Systems, a provider of simulation products for modeling hardware products, said Tuesday that it has closed on $12M in a Series D funding round. The new round of funding came from ZenShin Capital, along with prior investors Allen Buckeridge, Foundation Capital, and Mohr Davidow Ventures. VaST Systems products are used to simulate hardware systems, in order to validate hardware and software designs.     Respectance Adds $1.5M
    San Francisco-based Respectance, an online web site focused on remembering loved ones, said today it has added $1.5M in a Series A funding round. The funding came from Solid Ventures and Big Bang Ventures. According to the firm, it is formally launching its social networking web site, focused on sharing memories of lost loved ones today. The funding will go towards development of the site, partnerships, an international presence, and to drive user adoption.

    Terabeam Scores $7.5M In PIPE
    San Jose-based Terabeam, which owns Proxim Wireless and Ricochet Networks, said today that it has completed a private placement of common stock which garnered the firm $7.5M. Investors in the firm wree not disclosed. Proxim is a developer of hardware for the municipal wireless network market; Ricochet is an Internet Service provider that provides wireless services in Denver, Colorado.

    hi5 Nets $20M
    San Francisco-based hi5, an online social networking web site, said today that it has raised $20M in a venture capital funding from MDV-Mohr Davidow Ventures. hi5 said that it will use the funding to expand its services and grow into new markets. hi5 provides social networking with a tilt towards international markets. According to the firm, it has more than 60 million registered members and has been profitable for the last two years.
