Kickfire, which is developing high performance, MySQL database appliances, launched the firm's products this week and disclosed backing from venture capital firms Accel Partners, Greylock Partners, and Mayfield. Details of the funding were not disclosed. Santa Clara-based Kickfire has created a high performance, data warehousing product based on the popular MySQL open source database. The firm released what it said were record breaking TPC-H benchmarks and a partnership with Sun Microsystems Monday. Kickfire's appliance is based on a hardware acceleration using a chip which parallel processes SQL queries. The firm said its product provides 10-100x faster performance than a traditional relational database.
