Santa Clara-based Kickfire, a developer of MySQL database appliances, said today that it has appointed Bruce Armstrong as the firm's Chairman and CEO. Armstrong was most recently CEO and President of KNOVA Software, and has also served at Sybase, where he was VP and GM of the firm's Server Products Groups, and at Teradata, where he was VP and GM of the firm's Enterprise Solutions Division. Armstrong has also served at Broadbase. Kickfire is venture backed by Accel Partners, Greylock Partners, The Mayfield Fund and Pinnacle Ventures. Kickfire's technology is based on high speed, dedicated chips for processing SQL statements, to accelerate SQL queries in such applications as business intelligence.
