VMware Rolls Out Free Hypervisor
Palo Alto-based VMware, a provider of system virtualization software, said Monday that it has released a free version of the firm's ESXi hypervisor. According to VMware, it will allow companies to download the firm's stand-alone hypervisor for free, downloadable from its web site. ESXi is a reduced footprint version of the firm's flagship ESX hypervisor, and does not include a local service management console or ability to include backup or management agents. The free version of its hypervisor is aimed at helping companies adopt server virtualization technology.
