Canesta, a developer of CMOS camera chips, announced this morning that it has raised $16M in new funding. The round came from Carlyle Growth Partners, Hotung Venture Group, Venrock, as well as new strategic investors Quanta Computer Inc. and SMSC. The firm said the new funding will go towards business expansion and working capital. canesta said its chips can help enable "3-D" user experiences, vision recognition, and such things as touchless gesture controls for TVs, videogames, and smart phones.
