Cypress Sells CMOS Image Sensor Unit
San Jose-based Cypress has sold its CMOS image sensor unit to ON Semiconductor, in a deal worth $31.4M in cash. According to ON Semiconductor, it will also acquire around 100 patents and patent applications as part of the deal, and hires on approximately 80 Cypress Semiconductor ISBU employees. Cypress said the sale will enable the firm to focus on its programmable products, including its programmable systems-on-a-chip and touch-sensing controllers.
