UniversityNow Takes $17M To Overhaul College Education
San Francisco-based UniversityNow has just raised $17M in a Series B investment, to help its efforts to overhaul the college education and degree system. The startup, led by Gene Wade, is trying to launch a web-based, affordable, charter university. The round was led by University Ventures Fund and Bertelsmann AG, along with Kapor Capital, Novak Biddle Venture Partners and Greylock Partners. UniversityNow runs New Charter University, which offers up online courses--and actual accredited degrees--based on a subscription plan.
