Santa Clara-based Atheros Communications, a developer of wireless semiconductors and related products, said Thursday afternoon that it would pay $54M for u-Nav Microelectronics, a developer of global positioning system (GPS) chipsets. The deal included $15.4M in cash, 1.28M shares of Atheros commons stock, plus unspecified earnout. u-Nav, based in Irvine, California, was venture backed by iSherpa Capital, Nordic Venture Partners, and Shelter Capital Partners. Atheros said the acquisition would expand its portfolio of products, which also includes wireless LAN, Bluetooth, and PHS products.
