San Mateo-based SpringSource said today that it has acquired Covalent Technologies, which is based in Walnut Creek. Financial terms of the acquisition was not disclosed. SpringSource develops open source software for the enterprise market; Covalent Technologies provides support and services for Apache open source projects. SpringSource provides development and support for the Java Spring Framework, used for application development; Covalent provides support for such projects as the Apache TomCat application server and the Apache web server. SpringSource was formerly known as Interface21, and is venture backed by Benchmark Capital. Covalent Technologies has previously received funding from Menlo Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Granite Ventures.
