Sphere Acquired by AOL
San Francisco-based Sphere said today that it has been acquired by AOL. Financial terms were not disclosed. Sphere was venture backed by Hearst Corp., Trident Capital, and True Ventures, among others. Sphere provides widgets for linking from blogs and other publishers to news sites. The firm was headed by Tony Conrad. Sphere had originally started as a blog search engine, and transitioned to a web widget publisher in early 2006.
