Harmonic Buys Omneon
Sunnyvale-based Harmonic Inc. said Thursday that it has acquired Omneon, a developer of media server and video streaming products for the digital media industry, in a deal worth $274M in cash and stock. Harmonic said that Omneon will help the firm become a "global leader" in video infrastructure for the digital media industry. Omneon's clients include the BBC, BSkyB, CBS, Comcast, Discovery Communications, Echostar, NBC Universal, News Corporation, Televisa, Turner Broadcasting System, and Viacom. Omneon is also headquartered in Sunnyvale, and has around 280 employees.
