Capella Space Lands $19M For Earth Observing Satellites
San Francisco-based Capella Space, which is developing cloud-penetrating, radar-powered small satellites aimed at providing on-demand, Earth observation imagery, has raised $19M in a Series B funding, the company said this morning. The funding was led by Spark Capital and DCVC (Data Collective) and also included Mark VC and Harmony Partners. Capella Space says it is developing a satellite which unfolds from the size of a backpack to almost 100 square feet, which it plans to launch in November; the company eventually hopes to deploy a 36-satellite constallation to provide images from anywhere on earth in under an hour.
