Automattic Raises $160M
San Francisco-based Automattic, the company behind the popular Wordpress blog software and Wordpress.com blog hosting service, has raised $160M in a funding round. The funding was led by Insight Partners. According to Matt Mullenweg, the funding is the first investment into the company since 2008, and is a primary round; the funding values the company at nearly $1.2 billion. Mullenweg said that prior to the investment, Automattic had only raised a total of $12M in equity capital.
