San Francisco-based
AltspaceVR has been rescued from the deadpool, and has been acquired by computing software giant
Microsoft, to help Microsoft bolster its Windows Mixed Reality software unit.
According to Microsoft, it use AltspaceVR to help create the "world's preeminent mixed reality community". AltspaceVR was venture backed by Tencent, Dolby Family Ventures, Raine Ventures Lux Capital, Western Technology Investments, Maven Ventures, Promus Ventures, Streamlined Ventures, Rothenberg Ventures, and Comcast Ventures. AltspaceVR had
shut down its services in July, but later brought those services back online in August.
